Vitamin Levels
(All prices include VAT)
Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and keeps bones, muscles and the immune system healthy. Low levels are very common, especially with limited sun exposure, and may cause tiredness, muscle aches, bone pain or hair changes, and over time weaker bones. Very high levels, usually from too many supplements, can raise calcium and cause nausea or kidney problems. This test tells you where you stand so your doctor can advise the right dose and recheck when needed.

No. Eat, drink and take your usual medication as normal. There is no preparation at all, which makes this one of the easier tests to fit into a busy day.
Because sunshine only helps when it reaches bare skin, at the right time of day, for long enough. Long hours indoors and in the car, avoiding the midday heat, modest clothing and sunscreen all reduce how much your skin makes. This is very common here and is not something you did wrong.
Do not stop anything on your own. Just tell the nurse what you take and when you last took it, including weekly or monthly high dose capsules, and it will be noted on your record. What matters is that whoever reads your result knows what is behind it.
It means your stores are lower than the range your laboratory uses. Your doctor decides what follows based on how low it is, your symptoms and your bone health. That might be sunlight and diet advice, or a supplement at a specific dose for a set period. The dose is a medical decision, not a shelf decision.
Usually not soon. Because this test reflects your level over the past month or two, retesting a couple of weeks after starting a supplement tells you very little. Your doctor will typically suggest waiting around three months after starting or changing a dose.
